Say hello to TA Bella, she is a teacher’s assistance for COMM 231-01: Storytelling Words, Image, Sound.
She is a senior with a journalism major and an English minor.
Bella said, “I wanted to be a TA because I always have been interested in teaching. Even in high school, I was debating if I wanted to become a teacher. I think about continuing my education and going for teaching [sometime in the near future]. At the end of the day, I want to be in my field, hands-on. Maybe in 25-30 years, I’ll go back and get my teaching degree.”
When being a TA, you are required to assist the students in the class.
She said, “I took [Storytelling] last year. I’m a senior, which means I have several different courses under my belt, and I know how to write in various styles. I’ve had four different internships, and I’ve been to a conference created for upcoming journalists. I know what people in the journalism/media field are looking for. I can help students brainstorm story ideas, and I can assist in answering questions. I can point them in the right direction. I want them to create articles that they can put in their portfolio to show future employers down the line. “
Just like myself, watching the students’ reactions to getting assignments and quizzes it is interesting.
Bella said, “I want to be able to sit on the other side of the table and see first hand how the class reacts to assignments. I want to be able to read what they create and understand their point of view on stories. Even though I’m a senior, and most of the students are sophomores, I can still learn something from them.”
